Gardening in Exchange for Accommodation
Job Description
As a 200 acre farmstay and ecotourism destination, shetland and llama farm and wildlife refuge, we have a never-ending list of relatively basic, but nonetheless important tasks which must be done all year round.
We are constantly in need live-in helpers - meaning, a couple or suitable single, happy to work 2 days per week in exchange for their own self-contained, fully-furnished cottage right here in the midst of our rustic slice of bush paradise. For over 20 years, we have hosted backpackers happy for a chance to take a break from travelling and catch their breath for a few months.
Most of the work involves gardening, including raking, digging, mulching, weeding, planting and pruning. There is some housekeeping, cleaning the main Homestead and our guest cottage; and there are a few groundskeeping tasks like collecting firewood, clearing gutters, or filling pot-holes in the driveway.
In exchange, our helpers live rent-free in their very own, private bluestone cottage; with a full-sized kitchen, double bedroom with ensuite bathroom, and separate living/dining room with wood fire, TV and free Wi-Fi; and a lovely big verandah.
Electricity, gas and water are all supplied, as well as linen, towels, crockery, cutlery and cookware.
As we only ask for 2 days’ work per week, our helpers have plenty of time to relax, study, seek casual work in the local area (in hospitality, fruit-picking, tending vineyards etc.)… and enjoy the property as we do.
***Please note, it is essential you have your own vehicle, as there is no public transport.
