Elwood Bathers is a beachfront restaurant, bar, and events venue with flawless views across Port Philip Bay. We pride ourselves on our menu which delivers a locally sourced, classic bistro cuisine prepared by our dedicated kitchen team.
We have an incredible opportunity for an experienced Sous Chef to join our team working across multiple kitchens, whilst delivering several services including à la carte, canapé style & full plate functions, pizzas, and beach club-style dining.

This is a permanent, full-time role on $76,650 + 10% super. We are open for lunch & dinner, 7 days a week, weekend work will be essential.
This role will suit someone who has worked in a high-volume kitchens before and prides themselves on their culinary expertise and ability to work under pressure.
Responsibilities:
- Liaise with the Executive Chef to implement new menus
- Lead the kitchen line and oversee the quality and pace of food leaving the kitchen
- Assist with the preparation of budgets and aim to achieve the budgeted gross profit
- Assist with the management of payroll, staff rotation and kitchen cleaning schedule
- Provide training and development for department staff in kitchen procedures
- Provide and record a program of basic training for all new members of staff and to communicate performance and development issues on a regular basis
- Manage the team of kitchen staff during service and in absence of the Executive Chef
Requirements:
- Strong leadership and mentoring skills with a focus on developing the kitchen team
- Relevant formal qualifications preferred plus minimum 2 years’ experience in upscale kitchen, or minimum 3 years’ relevant experience if trained on-the-job
- Great understanding of COG’s, food quality consistency and all current food handling and safety regulations
- Strong computer literacy skills
- Ability to do large number of orders throughout the day, as our kitchen never closes
- Capable of running the kitchen in the absence of the Executive Chef
- Professional, articulate, friendly, and punctual
- Strong communication skills
- Able to work at a rapid pace while maintaining attention to detail and ability to multi-task
- Excellent attitude and be willing to go out of the way to accommodate the guests and exceed expectations
- High level of personal grooming essential
